Even though I’m a novice gardener, I like to grow unusual things. I’ll show you one of them in the video below. (It is a root vegetable that I didn’t know existed until a couple of years ago! Can you guess which?)

Sometimes gardening feels like a bit of a mystery to me because I don’t really know what I’m doing. It’s all new, and I’m still trying to figure things out.

It got me thinking…how many times in parenting are we doing something new?

I’d say pretty much every day is new in some way. Our kids are constantly changing and so are we!

So even though we know some basic principles about parenting and have the same values as we did yesterday, each day brings a unique set of challenges. We may know what has “worked” in the past with our child, but today’s conversation or situation may require a whole new approach.

Because everything in parenting is at least a little bit new every day, mistakes are inevitable. Mistakes are expected. They can’t be avoided.

So, we have a choice.

When you feel like beating yourself up for making mistakes in parenting…

Try this different, kinder, gentler option in the video below. And I’ll also tell you about my favorite root veggie.
