In my work as a parent coach, I’ve seen a very common mistake that even really insightful parents are making. It’s quick to fix and it makes all the difference.
It’s about how you respond when your child complains or is upset about something.
I made you a quick video about it because it’s easier to understand when you see it. It’s just 2 minutes long.
When our kids are distressed in some way, it’s natural for us to want to fix it for them. We want to take away their pain, give them a different perspective, and soothe our own discomfort (from seeing their pain).
But the first step is empathy. THEN, we can help them problem-solve, ask questions, and share our perspective.
